The Ear Taproom

Aptly named  to emphasize the listening room characteristics that make The Lobby a premier venue for supporting musical acts, THE EAR is a taproom in The Lobby offering locally-sourced adult beverages.

*Until THE EAR is up and running, please enjoy a complimentary adult beverage during the musical performances!

Origins of The Ear

The owner of the Lofts on Main, Jay, loved to hang out at a particular NYC dive bar in the 1970s. It featured a dying neon sign, weakly flashing out one simple and straightforward message: BAR. Sometimes the rounded part of the "B" in "BAR" would flicker off completely, and the sign would just read "EAR."  As a young filmmaker, Jay spent a lot of time hanging out at the "EAR." He heard Miles Davis blow horn, hung out one night with a few Grateful Dead, and even witnessed Serpico perform CPR on Mayor Kotch. Jay immersed himself in the bohemian life of The Village and Meatpacking Districts and breathed in the NYC culture and grit of the transformative '70s. If you catch Jay sauntering up to the bar for a beverage at THE EAR, be sure to ask him to bend your ear for a story or two!
